2001

SOS and the Seacare Group of Companies moved to their very own building the " Seacare Building" on 19 February 2001.

The Seacare Building was officially opened by Mr Lim Boon Heng, Secretary-General, NTUC and Minister without Portfolio on 26th June 2001.

The number of Union members and ships covered by SOS Collective Agreements reached a record high of 9213 and 403 respectively as at 30th September 2001.
The Seacare Group of Companies achieved a turnover of $14 million and an amount of $677,584 in profit before tax for financial year ended 31st March 2001. The total number of employees of Seacare Group of Companies stands at 1050
as at September 2001.

The new SOS logo was launched on 5 October 2001 at the Union's 30th Anniversary celebration, marking a milestone in the history of the Union.

SOS decided to have a new logo that better reflect the vibrant nature of the Union. The fresh, bold and modern look also aptly signifies the Union's forward looking character and its determination to weather the challenges ahead.
2002

Appointment of Mr Arthur Fong as new advisor on
1 April 2002.
Formation of SOS Training Advisory Committee to
better cater to SOS members’ training needs.
SOS offers scholarship to Singapore Citizens and
PRs for the Diploma in Maritime and Port
Management, which is jointly organized by MPA,
NUS and PSA Institute. The objective of the
programme is to enhance the knowledge and skills
of management personnel in the shipping
industry.
2003
On the SOS 32nd and Seacare 9th
Anniversary, the first revamped look of Samudra
was unveiled.

The Joint Negotiation Group representing
seafarers’ employers and the International
Transport Workers Federation held their
international bargaining forum on 11 September
2003 in Singapore.
SOS participated in the MPA’s inaugural
distribution of hampers to ships calling at the
Singapore port over the New Year period.
Amended the SOS Constitution to change the
periodic basic of the obligatory general meeting
of members from Triennial to Quadrennial.
2004
Union Membership reached a record high of
11,412.
The Foreign Flag Agreement between SOS, SMOU and
SMEF was renewed in March 2004.
SOS offered Special Training Assistance to
paid-up members with at least one year of SOS
membership for modules in the basic Safety
Training Course.
The NTUC, SMOU
and SOS jointly sponsored the series of ITF
meetings including ITF Fair Practices Conference
in Singapore during 12 ~ 16 Jul 04.

To commemorate the World Maritime Day, MPA and
SOS jointly presented hampers to some 600
ships. The joint effort by MPA and SOS is to
demonstrate the strong co-operation between the
MPA and the Union in promoting the interests and
the welfare of the seafarers.
SOS invested in the NTUC Investment Co-operative
with a view to setting up the NTUC Learning Hub
Pte Ltd.
2005
The official opening of the new premises of
Seacare Maritime Medical Center at Amara Hotel
on 27 Jan 05.

Launched the Seacare Medical Scheme. In March
05 to provide SOS local members with free Health
Screening at Seacare Maritime Medical Center and
SOS Filipino members and their dependents with
free medical benefits at Seacare affiliated
clinic in Manila.

A total of 217 members attended the personal
safety & social responsibility (PSSR) and
Elementary First Aid (EFA) courses organized by
the Union.
The Membership of SOS rose to12,800 in December
2005 and the number of ships covered by SOS
Collective Agreement reached the record high of
487 vessels.
