General Procedures, Guidelines and Interpretation
 

The following are the guidelines on membership benefit, social activities and chalet bookings. Actions as stipulated will be taken for non-adherence.

A

Membership Benefit

Transfer of Entitlement/Benefit

a

To non-paid up members

The members who make such transfer shall be barred from social activities of the Union for 1 year with effect from date of such transfer.

b

To non-members (outsiders)

The members who make such transfer shall be barred from further social activities of the Union for 3 years with effect from date of such transfer.

Training Grants

Actions

a

Courses not listed in Schedules of Courses

No training grant but only allowance and course examination fee shall be payable.

Courses listed in Schedules of Courses

Training Grants are always subject to the conditions imposed by the sponsoring institutions. If the Union has to pay a penalty because of a breach of the conditions of a training grant, the Union will make the offending member pay the penalty, unless he can show good reasons acceptable to the Welfare Committee. If the member does not pay the penalty, he shall be debarred from applying for further training grants. He shall continue to enjoy other membership benefits except that the Union shall have the right to offset the amount owing by him to the Union against any sum of money due from the Union to him.

Study Grants

Actions

a

Recipient represented at ceremony

If recipient cannot attend the award ceremony, he/she must state in his/her application form the name and NRIC number of the family member who will be receiving the award on his/her behalf. If not, recipient shall be deemed to be absent and not represented at the ceremony.

ii

Recipient not represented at ceremony

If recipient is absent and not represented at the award ceremony, his/her study grant may be cancelled.

Hong Bao for Retired Seamen

Actions

a

Recipient represented at ceremony

If recipient cannot attend the award ceremony, he/she must state in his/her application form the name and NRIC number of the family member who will be receiving the award on his/her behalf. If not, recipient shall be deemed to be absent and not represented at the ceremony.

b

Recipient not represented at the ceremony

If recipient is absent and not represented at the award ceremony, his hong bao may be cancelled, unless the Welfare Committee approves his request to receive his hong bao in absentia or his absence. If the Welfare Committee so approves, the hong bao will be given to him at his place of residence.

Family Outings - Outside Singapore

Actions

a

Booking Cancellation before departure date

Subject to the conditions of Tour Agent on Cancellation.

Non-participation without prior cancellation

Unless members can show documentary proof of reasons acceptable to the Welfare committee for non-participation, they must pay the full cost per participant or such smaller amount as the Welfare Committee decides on a case by case basis. A member who does not pay the whole amount due from him to the Union shall be barred from all further social activities. The member may continue to enjoy other membership benefits except that the Union shall have right to offset the amount so owing by him to the Union against any sum of money due from the Union to him.

Booking Cancellation at least 14 days before occupancy

Refund of all money paid by members.

Booking Cancellation less than 14 days before the occupancy date

No refund of any money paid by members
