Samudra was first published in August 1980 and has evolved gradually through the years. It underwent a major change when in 1991, the 8- page one colour newsletter was upgraded to a 2 to 4 colour publication. Since then, there have been occasional alterations in the mastheads, cover designs and contents.

Among the notable change was the change in size in 1998 and later in 2003, where a special size was introduced. Samudra became a full-colour newsletter from our August/September 2001 issue.
